Help ABC Honor Tim Barton

Support My Turn and their work to assist economically, socially and educationally disadvantaged youth.   Tim Barton, longtime leader at DECCO and ABC, the ABC SIG and the Gould Construction Institute, passed away suddenly last month at just 64.   Tim’s passing is a huge loss on so many levels, and the Chapter and SIG Boards of ABC MA and ABC NH/VT, as well as the GCI Board are united in wanting to honor Tim by supporting an organization and a cause that was a passion of his.   The organization is My Turn, a not-for-profit based in Manchester, NH,  and the cause is providing opportunity to young people in need of some help.     In working with My Turn on pre-apprenticeship programs for DECCO, Tim developed a strong and close relationship with the organization and the young people it serves and helped a number of individuals become successful apprentices with new skills and confidence.   There were few mentors ...

August 2020 Chairman's Message

The way we in the construction industry think of “safety” has certainly expanded in recent months. It used to be that safety meant ensuring that all our employees made it home to their families every night. Then came COVID, and a whole new set of precautions to keep our people healthy and our industry functioning with it.A recent heatwave reminds us that we must also take steps to protect employees from exposure to the sun and heat while abiding by COVID-19 health guidelines. The fact that it’s hot this time of year is not exactly front-page news, but it’s too easy to forget to take the necessary precautions in the midst of focusing on the many steps we’re already taking to keep the Coronavirus at bay.The first step is to encourage employees to wear the right clothing. Cotton soaks up sweat and stays wet longer, which keeps heat from penetrating the body.
