On Thursday, June 14th, over 80 ABC members gathered at ABC MA's headquarters in Woburn, MA for the 5th Annual Spring Fling. Those in attendance enjoyed several food and beverage vendors, including the Beer Mobile, the Whoo(pie) Wagon from Topsfield Bakeshop, and Pennypackers, who provided attendees with fantastic barbecue. The Unicorn Park pond backdrop and festive atmosphere provided a great start to the summer! We would like to thank all of you that attended and our generous sponsors, Denron Plumbing and HVAC as well as our Drink Sponsor EnviroVantage.
Last week, over twenty ABC MA members attended the second installment of ABC MA's Legal Roundtable. Attorneys Robert Rudolph and Adam Shafran, from the law firm Rudolph Friedmann, provided information on new developments in employment law including the Massachusetts Earned Sick Time Law, Pay Equity Law, Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, issues surrounding discrimination and harassment, and an update on the potential impacts of medical and recreational marijuana on employers. We thank Robert and Adam, and everyone else who attended this informative event.
ABC MA's Legal Roundtable was established to provide an opportunity for ABC members to gather and hear from our expert member attorneys on current legal topics and trends impacting the construction industry and ask questions on these and other legal matters.
We will be hosting two additional Legal Roundtables this year, tentatively scheduled for Tuesday September 11th and Tuesday December 11th.
If you would like to join ABC MA's Legal Roundtable, have a topic you would wish to hear more about, or are an ABC associate member attorney that would like to present at an upcoming ABC MA Legal Roundtable, please contact Rob McGovern at Rob@abcma.org.

The 3rd annual Contractors Children's Fund Golf Tournament will take place on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Blissful Meadows, a beautiful 18-hole championship golf course located in Uxbridge, Massachusetts. Not only will you enjoy a great day of golf but you'll be supporting a great cause - and this year, a pair tickets to a New England Patriots game will be raffled off!
The Children's Fund provides scholarships for children who lost one or both parents at an early age. Money raised from the tournament will be used to provide two (2) $2,500 scholarships for graduating students who experienced the loss of a parent. Last week, ABC MA hosted the first installment of the Rethink Safety Seminar Series titled Super/Foreman Safety 101. Milt Jacobs, President of Safety Solution Consultants Inc. (SSCI), led the seminar while engaging the attendees in a personable conversation about his experience with safety in the construction industry. Milt was joined by Rob Zak, a former construction superintendent of 20-plus years, who also engaged attendees in a conversation regarding real-world threats on the jobsite while answering all questions that were posed by those in attendance. ABC MA has paired with SSCI to host quarterly events for our Rethink Safety Series, so stay tuned for more information regarding the next seminar coming this winter. We would like to thank all of you that attended and Milt Jacobs, and Rob Zak for making this event possible.

Who is Ari "Danger"?
Ari was an inspiring 5-year old from Stow, MA who was born with a heart defect. He recently endured a heart transplant which his body rejected, thereby shutting down his immune system. His body fought hard to adjust to his new hear. During this time, the family discovered their house had black mold, so it was torn down to be rebuilt in order for Ari to return home.
The saddest news came July 21st when his family announced that Ari had passed away. Ari "Danger" Schultz had touched the hearts of thousands of people.
What is Ari "Danger" Day?
This fundraising event is an afternoon of music, activities, food and drink to celebrate Ari's life and help relieve some of the exorbitant costs that his family faces. This is a fully supported event and all proceeds go directly to the Shultz family.

Last Thursday, ABC MA and the Gould Construction Institute honored this year’s Safety, Training, and Evaluation Process (S.T.E.P.) award recipients at the 13th annual ABC/GCI Safety & Education Dinner held at Montvale Plaza in Stoneham, MA.
The Safety & Education Dinner is ABC/GCI’s premier event, celebrating our member companies’ commitment to worker safety and training, the talented instructors dedicated to educating the next generation of industry leaders, and the students working long hours during the day and attending classes at night to improve their knowledge and skills. “This is a night to recognize our students and their employers who continue to raise the standards of safety, training, and education in the construction industry,” commented GCI President Barbara Lagergren.
The S.T.E.P. Awards were the highlight of the evening. This year, a record 60 ABC member companies were recognized for having an outstanding commitment to jobsite safety. “By drawing attention to the importance of jobsite safety we make sure that it is not taken for granted,” Lagergren said. “The bottom line is that we are nothing without safe, healthy workers.”
