Last Friday, August 31st, ABC MA hosted its first annual Hockey Challenge at the Warrior Arena in Brighton, the magnificent new practice facility for the Boston Bruins. The ABC MA Hockey Challenge was a major success with over 45 players competing on four different teams consisting of an ABC MA team, Cross Insurance, Dellbrook/JKS, and Resources Options Inc.
In game one, Resource Options got off to a strong start against Dellbrook/JKS with big goals from past ABC Board Member Bryan Quinn and solid defense from Chris Manley and Dustin Darou. Despite a great effort from Dellbrook captain Russ Hanson, ROI sealed the win to advance to the finals. Game two featured Team ABC and Cross Insurance. ABC rolled 3 strong lines led by John Staffier, Roland Jenkins, Anthony Aussiello, Kevin McMillan and Keith Barnaby. Cross had great goal scoring by another long time ABC supporter, Mike Guarino. In the end, strong defense by Steve Sullivan and Phil Lussier along with great goaltending by Kevin Huska (former Mass Maritime Goalie now L.C. Anderson) carried ABC to a win. The championship game started at 7:20 and ROI was ready for Team ABC! They came out fast with a quick goal from Greg Gallagher, then quickly scored 3 more to give them a 4-0 lead. By this time, the crowd was stunned as the home town favorite ABC looked to be down and out. Well, they were all correct…. ABC rallied for 2 more goals to make it mildly respectable before ROI skated away with the first ever ABC Tournament Championship Trophy.
The event ended as all players and sponsors went to Flatbread for the post game reception. There, Mike Guarino was named player of the game for Cross Insurance, Mike Rotondi Jr. for Team ABC, Bryan Quinn for ROI and Russ Hanson from Dellbrook.
We would like to thank all who participated, including our sponsors without which this event would not have occurred:
A very special THANK YOU to Karl Hudson from L.C. Anderson for being the Main Tournament Sponsor!
