Electrical Board Meeting Update (10/22/18)

The Electrical Board met on October 22nd at Southeastern Regional Vocational School in South Easton, MA. In addition to regular board meeting attendees, there were vocational high school electrical students in the audience. The following occurred during the meeting:
  • The Board reviewed and explained the purpose and functions of the Electrical Board as well as offer career advancement suggestions to help the students once they graduate
  • DPL has stopped issuing electrical permits in Merrimack Valley as of 10/5/18 in the areas affected by Columbia Gas due to a duplication in efforts with the towns and is now on standby if the towns need any assistance in processing. 
  • The board has reached out to MAVA and Local 103 to find off site meeting locations for next year

Karl Hudson, 2019 ABC MA Chairman It is my honor and privilege to serve as chair of ABC Massachusetts as we enter the new year.  I’d like to start by acknowledging the hard work and dedication of outgoing Chair John Anderson, as well as President and CEO Greg Beeman and the entire staff, who work diligently on behalf of our members.    We are in the midst of a five-year strategic plan that includes three primary goals: Workforce Development, Membership Development and Legislative Effectiveness.  And I’m happy to say that we have made significant progress on each of them. ​ In terms of workforce development, we graduated the first class of our pre-apprenticeship program in 2018, which was funded by a grant from the Commonwealth Corporation. Metro Walls Gives Back by Donating $20,000 to the NH Food Bank!

Kaplan Construction Begins Work on JFK Crossing

BOSTON – December 12, 2018 – Kaplan Construction, a WBE general contractor and construction management firm providing comprehensive building programs across Greater Boston, announced today that it has started construction on JFK Crossing, a five-story, 42,000 SF mixed-use building at 420 Harvard Street in Brookline, Mass. being developed by Aura Properties LLC. Kaplan is responsible for demolition and construction management for the project, which was designed by Embarc Studio. Construction started in September and is expected to be complete in August 2019. Named JFK Crossing after its proximity to John F. Kennedy’s former family home, the building will feature 25 residential units ranging from studio to three bedrooms, with 25 percent of the units set aside as affordable housing (40B). Waters’ Precision Chemistry Facility will provide the firm with 134,000 sf of expanded space for its process operations. 2019 Annual ABC MA Planning Conference

Last week, over 30 ABC MA members attended our annual Strategic Planning Conference at The Conference Center at Waltham Woods. Laura Cataldo, of Baker Tilly, facilitated the day-long conference, which served as a continuation of our five year plan to enhance ABC's standing as a construction industry leader.   Last year's meeting focused on workforce development, membership and legislative affairs.
