ABC's Building Mass Careers Hosts Career Roundtable at Woburn Memorial High School

On Friday March 22, ABC MA's Building Mass Careers hosted a construction industry round table at Woburn Memorial High School in Woburn, MA. Over 30 high school juniors and seniors heard from five ABC MA member companies about their crafts within the Construction industry, and their specific company hiring practices.  “It was a great event for our students to be part of” explained, Jessica Callanan, Principal of Woburn High School. “Our students heard first hand from employers about what is needed to be successful in the workplace. Erland Foundation Raises Awareness for the New England Center for Children at Annual Bowling Fundraiser

Erland employees laced up their bowling shoes at Kings in Burlington to support autism awareness and education at their third annual Strike Out Autism bowling fundraiser. The Erland Foundation’s Strike Out Autism event on February 7 benefited The New England Center for Children® (NECC®), a global leader in autism education, research and technology. Proceeds from this event directly support NECC’s goal to help children with autism acquire the skills they need to maximize their independence. ​More than 120 bowlers and countless volunteers participated in making this event another great success. Attendees included NECC students and staff members, subcontractors, Erland employees, friends and family members. NEI General Contracting Transforms Dormitory into Affordable Housing

​BOSTON – NEI General Contracting, an award-winning general contractor and construction management firm, announced today it has completed its fourth project for the Planning Office for Urban Affairs, Inc. (POUA), a non-profit housing developer affiliated with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston. NEI oversaw the historic adaptive re-use of the 56,000 SF Kennedy Hall at Cardinal Cushing Center in Hanover, Mass. into 37 affordable and workforce housing units, which is now known as Bethany Apartments. The Cardinal Cushing Center in Hanover, Mass. has supported children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities through education, employment training, residential care, and other services since the late 1940’s. Constructed in 1957 as a dormitory, Kennedy Hall has been converted into 37 spacious units with a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units. NEI General Contracting Retained for Historic Renovation to Create Mason Square Apartments

​BOSTON – NEI General Contracting, an award-winning general contractor and construction management firm, has been retained by First Resource Development Corporation LLC for the historic rehabilitation of an existing 55,000 SF mill building and adjacent 15,000 SF firehouse in Springfield, Mass. Located in the McKnight National Historic District of Springfield at 837 State Street, the existing historic building is best known as the original home of the Indian Motorcycle Factory where the famed motorcycles were built and distributed nationwide. NEI General Contracting will start by renovating the existing site drainage systems and new site utility work to support the renovation of the mill and firehouse buildings before demolition of the existing structures, the addition of drainage system and site improvements to provide an accessory parking lot to support future residents. JM Coull Tops Off First Building of Waters Corporation’s Manufacturing Facility Expansion Project in Taunton, MA

JMC topped off the first building under Waters Corporation’s 135,000 sf manufacturing facility expansion project in Taunton Maynard, MA – JM Coull (JMC) topped off the first building under Waters Corporation’s 135,000 sf manufacturing facility expansion project in Taunton. The building, which will house offices, laboratories, manufacturing space, central utilities, and maintenance, has since been enclosed and made weather tight. Energy-efficient TPO roofing is currently being installed. Waters is making approximately a $215 million investment in the project. JMC has retained the services of Industrial Facilities Design, Inc. HVAC Apprentices Must Register with Division of Apprentice Standards (DAS)

All HVAC companies must be registered with the Division of Apprentice Standards (DAS) in order for the HVAC apprentices’ work experience to count towards their license exam requirements.

For those students whose companies are not currently part of the program, the board will be grandfathering in students for approximately 6 months if their company calls and registers with the DAS.

Bryce Reagan, Son of ABC MA Board Member Kyle Reagan, Starts Impressive Collegiate Baseball Career

It was quite a weekend for young Bryce Reagan.  After his freshman year, the star shortstop from Amherst, New Hampshire’s Souhegan High School had already committed to accept a baseball scholarship to attend Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA.  But now, in the summer between his sophomore and junior years, things were happening fast. ​ Despite his intention to attend Virginia Tech, Bryce continued to receive interest from several other big-time schools, such as Arizona State, Arizona, and USC. So Bryce decided to decommit from Virginia Tech and planned a weekend visit, along with his dad, ABC board member and one of DECCO’s Managing Partners, Kyle Reagan. The two headed to the southwest to visit the University of Arizona and Arizona State.  The latter had produced the likes of Reggie Jackson and Dustin Pedroia, among others.
