Women in Construction Week - Vera Fernandes Vadeboncoeur

ABC is thrilled to celebrate Women in Construction Week! At ABC, women are a critical part of our organization and the construction workforce, and we are committed to recruiting and upskilling women in the construction industry as part of our efforts to continue growing a diverse and inclusive construction workforce. Many ABC member companies are women-owned and/or employ women in all areas of operations, from in the field to the office.

During Women in Construction Week, we are highlighting several ABC members to celebrate the great work they do every day of the year and to provide some insight into the women who represent our organization and industry, such as Vera Fernandes Vadeboncoeur, Controller / Office Manager for Fernandes Masonry, Inc.

When you work in a family business, you wear a lot of hats.  Take Vera Fernandes Vadeboncoeur, whose four brothers started Fernandes Masonry in New Bedford.  Her roles range from controller & office manager to human resource manager to safety manager.

In addition to all that, Vera is the first of 10 siblings to earn a college degree, recipient of the 2016 Southcoast Emerging Leader Award and an ABC board member.

Despite all her responsibilities, Vera has found the time to help run a foundation dedicated to the memory of her nephew, Noah Fernandes, who died at 15 from a rare mitochondrial disease.  The Team Noah Foundation is dedicated to making a difference for children with special needs and medical conditions, as well as for their families.  The foundation seeks to improve the children and families’ quality of life by making changes to their environments.
