Please see the message below from Dan James of Erland Construction. Dan, who serves on the Board of Directors of ABC’s Gould Construction Institute, is a neighbor and close friend of the Schultz family and has been leading the effort to rebuild the family’s home, which was contaminated with toxic mold and had to be torn down.
For those who have not already heard, it is with a heavy heart that I pass along the tragic news that our young friend Ari Schultz passed away last night. He was at peace and listening to a Red Sox broadcast when he slipped away. This comes as a terrible shock to us all, especially because he had been doing so well since his release from the hospital. He had a busy and fun past month playing sports, visiting with his sports heroes, and mostly just being with his family.
As we all struggle to make sense of this and look for ways to ease the Schultz Families sorrow, we should remember that the family is still without a home. We have begun the project and the demolition is now complete (Ari was very impressed by the T-Rex looking “Muncher” that took the house down). We are digging for foundations right now, and look to begin framing the second week in August. It is very important that we don’t let our sorrow over losing Ari diminish our commitment to providing a home for his Mom Erica, Dad Mike, Sister Lexi, and Brother Ely. The absolute best thing we can do for the family is to provide some comfort in knowing that the reconstruction of their family home is one thing they don’t need to worry about.
On behalf of the family, I would like to thank all who have contributed so far in one way or another, and look forward to working with others as the project progresses. We now have a full set of drawings and are moving forward in selecting the MEP, exterior envelop, and finish trades. I will be reaching out to many of you in the next week to define scope and clarify offers. Thank you all for your patience as we work our way through this process. As I have said before, it is very refreshing to see so many from our industry stepping forward to help. That help is more important now than ever.
