The mission of our new Veterans Committee is to help returning vets enter a career in Construction. Committee members will be in place to mentor fellow vets contemplating a construction career. Our Veterans Committee will also participate in charitable and other veteran-related public events.
There are many federal, state and local Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs) that serve as career development conduits for vets. Returning veterans bring with them GI Bill benefits. The post-9-11 GI Bill has new provisions that also allow military spouses and children to receive education and training funds. Our Merit Apprentice Program and Gould Construction Institute programming provide great opportunities to help veterans on a meaningful career path in construction.
We ask member companies reach out to their employees who are veterans and ask them to consider volunteering for this important new ABC committee. The following video describes what an excellent fit the construction industry can be for veterans:
Thank you in advance for your help forming our Veterans Committee. We are excited about the prospects to help our veterans and bring new talent into our industry. If you have any questions, please contact Steve Sullivan, Director of Workforce Development at: Steve@abcma.org or 781-273-0123.
