To better prepare for our future, we developed and began implementing a five-year strategic plan. Part of the plan involves enhanced coordination and collaboration between ABC, the Gould Construction Institute and the Merit Apprenticeship Program to maximize effectiveness, meet future opportunities, and more seamlessly address our members’ needs. To do so, we held the first ever joint meeting between the ABC and Gould’s Board of Directors and established the ABC Construction Industry Workforce Council, which will provide a consistent forum to discuss and implement strategies for long and short term goals.
We began a minority business initiative that has included several meetings with minority contractors. We are currently planning a January reception as the next step in our efforts to attract more diverse members to our chapter.
We also had a great year in terms of membership. We added 50 new members and increased total membership to 425. We had a very successful EICA dinner as well as many other well-attended ABC events. We also had several fundraisers for some of the legislators who understand and support the issues that are important to our membership.
Our Nominating Committee has also done great work and will nominate six top-notch new members of the ABC board.
Finally, we have added signs to the ABC office in Woburn in recognition of those who made gifts when we moved to the new facility. A new illuminated ABC sign is also highly visible on the outside of our building.
Despite a successful year, there is no shortage of remaining challenges. I’m confident that my successor, Joe Barbone of Methuen Construction, will be equal to those challenges and build on the progress we made this year.
It has been my honor to serve for the second time as ABC chairman. I thank you all for that opportunity and for all the support you have given me. My best wishes to all our members and their familiesfor a very happy Holiday season.
