The pre-apprenticeship training program was developed as part of ABC's commitment towards growing and diversifying the construction industry. The first program included a diverse group of 30 individuals including veterans, women, inner-city and suburban young adults. ABC received a grant from the state to develop a two-night-a-week training program which was held over a four month period at Malden High School. The pre-apprentices received 75 hours of core construction education through ABC MA's Gould Construction Institute, OSHA-10 certification, Hot Work certification, 2A Hoisting license prep class, and were taught the importance of a strong work ethic. Several students have already acquired positions from ABC member companies, and many more are currently interviewing.
We would like to thank the participating students, ABC member-companies and staff that assisted in this process, and the state for funding this important endeavor that will serve as a blueprint moving forward.
If your company is interested in hiring one of the pre-apprentices, please contact Sophir Jeune at Sophir@abcma.org.
