Gould Construction Institute Announces S.T.E.P. Award Winners

The  Gould Construction Institute (GCI), based in Burlington, MA,  recently held their sixth annual Safety & Education Dinner meeting at the Montvale Plaza in Stoneham where they announced the 2010 S.T.E.P.  (Safety, Training, Evaluation Process) Award winners as well as the Craft Champion for 2010.

For
GCI the S.T.E.P. Awards is their premier event of the year. "This is a night to recognize our students and their employers who continue to raise the standards of safety, training, and education in the construction industry," commented Barbara Lagergren
, Executive Director of the Gould Construction Institute. "For a contractor, there is nothing more important than jobsite safety. For our employees, our clients and our industry, safety is job number one."

By drawing attention to the importance of jobsite safety,
GCI seeks to make sure that it is something that is not taken for granted.  When those companies who are truly committed to ensuring a safe environment for their workforce are recognized, other companies will follow their example.

“The criteria for earning S.T.E.P. awards are very high and this year’s pool was particularly competitive,” said Lagergren. “These companies deserve to be applauded for their commitment to ensuring they have a skilled and safe workforce.”

Below are some of the highlights from GCI for the 2009-2010 calendar year:

v    GCI had an enrollment of over 650 students and is operating in its 27th year.

v    GCI has offered four EPA LEAD Certification classes to meet new government regulations that went into effect on April 22, 2010.

v    GCI has tripled their correspondence student enrollment which includes non-licensed trades such as carpentry and masonry.

GCI is the training affiliate of the Massachusetts Chapter of Associated Builders & Contractors, Inc. For more information about GCI and their course offerings, please call (781) 270-9990.
