SouthPoint Hosts ABC Green Committee for Tour of New Solar Energy System
ABC MA’s Green Committee recently held an off-site meeting at SouthPoint, LLC to see firsthand their new rooftop installation of a leading-edge photovoltaic solar energy system.
SouthPoint is among the first contractors in the nation to be a certified installer of the new FlexLight system. This new rooftop solar energy system is a lightweight laminate that is virtually unbreakable, flexible, and adheres directly to the roof without penetrations.
According to SouthPoint, the benefits of this system include the ability to generate electricity at low light levels and capture the complete solar spectrum more efficiently. Michael Lastella, SouthPoint’s managing partner, said that he is very pleased with the performance of the FlexLight system at their facility, and their installation provides a tangible example to clients on the benefits of this technology.
He also notes that there are state and federal tax credits and incentives that are available to make the installation financially attractive. ABC Green Committee Chairman Doug Hunter said new photovoltaic systems such as this make sense on a number of levels. “The SouthPoint installation shows the benefits of this leading-edge technology in terms of being environmentally friendly, durable and much less cumbersome than previous systems. On top of that, the system can practically pay for itself in as few as five years with the tax credits and incentives available.”
SouthPoint LLC installs commercial and residential solar energy systems throughout New England. For more information, contact Michael Lastella at 978-840-4300.
Feeley & Driscoll Volunteers for Habitat for Humanity
This summer, 50 staff members of Feeley & Driscoll, P.C. continued their nine-year tradition of volunteering with Habitat for Humanity to help provide homes to worthy families. This year, the Feeley & Driscoll team had the honor of being the first group to work on a brand-new Habitat acquisition – the former St. Patrick Parish convent in Lawrence, MA.
Habitat’s Merrimack Valley Chapter is working over the next several years to convert the former convent, a 16,000 s/f structure that once housed more than 30 nuns, into a dozen condos.
Earlier this year, Feeley & Driscoll worked on another Habitat site in Lawrence following a devastating fire that destroyed three nearly-completed Habitat homes. The firm did fundraising to help offset the cost of rebuilding. Feeley & Driscoll is active in many charitable organizations, including the Greater Boston Walk for Hunger, the Jimmy Fund and Toys to Tots, among others. Feeley & Driscoll has also actively supported ABC’s efforts to build homes for Habitat for Humanity.
Feeley & Driscoll is based in Boston and services the New England region as a certified public accounting and business consulting specialist. For more information on Feeley & Driscoll, please contact Jacqueline Weir at 617-742-7788.
Triumph’s Modular School Plans Featured in Boston Herald
Triumph has teamed with two prominent area architects to help find solutions to the state’s escalating school construction costs, and the Boston Herald has recently reported on their efforts.
As the paper noted, Triumph teamed with L. Scott Dunlap and James Jordan, principals at Architecture Involution, a Wayland firm that has been recognized for its creative and cost-effective school design work. The pair, in turn, has formed an alliance with Clifford Cort, president of Littleton-based Triumph, which specializes in modular buildings.
“They have come up with what they believe could be the classroom of the future for cash-strapped local schools. The prototype is dubbed CASE 21, or Creative Academic Sustainable Environments for the 21st Century. The idea comes as state officials grapple with a series of budget-busting school construction projects, including a $200 million planned high school in Newton,” the Herald reported.
“But for Dunlap, Jordan and Cort, CASE 21 is not just about providing a cheap alternative to the traditional classroom. They say that modular construction provides the design flexibility to create a better classroom experience, while also being cost competitive,” the Herald noted.
Triumph recently built a modular classroom for the Carroll School in Lincoln that served as a catalyst for its new CASE 21 model, which will be manufactured at a plant in Pennsylvania. While there are no contracts yet to build the CASE 21,Cort believes it has the potential to save the Commonwealth – and cities and towns – millions of dollars.
Triumph is based in Littleton, MA, and is one of the region’s leading providers of temporary and permanent modular space solutions. For more information, please contact Clifford Cort at Triumph at 978-486-0120.
