GOULD CONSTRUCTION INSTITUTE SAFETY & EDUCATION NIGHT

On Thursday May 22, 2008, the Gould Construction Institute hosted its annual Safety Training Evaluation and Process (STEP) awards. fifty companies were honored for their outstanding commitment to job safety.

The GCI held its 4th annual Safety and Education Dinner Gala held at the Montvale Plaza in Stoneham, MA. Companies who train with GCI, those with outstanding safety records and apprentices, and craft champions were recognized. We also met the next generation of construction industry leaders as the George W. Gould Memorial Trust presented 10 students with scholarships. The Trust has distributed more than $328,000 in scholarships to 117 individuals since its inception in 1996.  In a short time, this event has grown leaps and bounds. Be sure to make your reservations early for next year.

The night was also a success because of the generosity of over 40 companies. Without these companies, the night would not have happened. Thank you.

ABC/GCI also signed an alliance with OSHA at the dinner. Peter Barletta, the Assistant Area Director in charge of the construction team in the Braintree OSHA Office attended. According to Barletta, through the Alliance Program, OSHA works with groups committed to safety health, including businesses, trade and professional organizations, educational institutions and others to leverage resources and expertise to help prevent injuries, illnesses and fatalities in the workplace.” We are proud to be one of those groups.

Long time ABC/GCI activist Bob Mabardy has been a great leader for ABC and the GCI. He has served as a chairman, board member, political leader, and, for the past several years, a leader of the Gould Memorial Trust. As a way to recognize what Bob has done for ABC/GCI and the merit shop industry, a leadership brick will be placed in our new Wall of Merit at the ABC/GCI office for Bob. Without the efforts and dedication of people like Bob, we would not be where we are today.
