Chairman's Message: GCI/ABC Safety & Education Night

PictureKarl Hudson, 2019 ABC MA Chairman
We all remember times when just surviving seemed to be the number one goal in our industry.  Today the challenge is finding enough qualified employees to meet the demand for construction services.

As important as all that is, it is absolutely essential that we send every one of our employees home safely to their families at the end of each day.  That will be the focus on Thursday, May 16, when the Gould Construction Institute (GCI), ABC’s fully licensed training affiliate, holds its annual Safety & Education Night at the Burlington Marriott.

At the dinner, GCI will honor member companies who have achieved excellence through ABC’s Safety Training Evaluation Process (STEP), which is an organized approach for analyzing and developing safety loss prevention programs.  But that’s just the beginning:

  • We will honor Gould instructors and students receiving certificates of completion;
  • Representatives from the Electrical Board will be available at the event to help electricians renew their licenses online, as now required;
  • Two critical educational seminars, one providing an annual OSHA update and another using leading lagging indicators to measure safety performance, start prior to the celebration at 4:00 pm;
  • And more!

Safety & Education Night symbolizes ABC’s dedication to training and jobsite safety, which is demonstrated by the fact that the Gould now serves a record 900 students.  It is also the only time all year that GCI askes for any financial support outside of tuition.  I hope you will acknowledge the importance of safety and education to ABC by becoming a sponsor.

If you’d like to demonstrate your company’s dedication to safety and training, please contact Allison Jackson at [email protected] or 781-270-9990.  I hope to see you at the Burlington Marriott on May 16.
